Newfoundout is an irish settlement off the Opeongo Settlement Road that thrived from about 1860 to 1930. It's now a ghost town. Farmers from Ireland were eager to take up farming in the New World to escape poverty, sickness and starvation in Ireland after years of blight destroying the potato harvest. Many people came from Ireland to the Ottawa Valley.
