The project was to remix six songs from The River, 2019. I love the full band versions on the album, but I also wanted to hear the songs with a more sparse sound/orchestration. This sound is what the folk group North Renfrew was put together for. It's a sweet sound combining guitar, accordion, fiddle, and mandolin/banjo.

Song 7 is a bonus track

ALBUM REVIEW [R.H. 2024 Feb 23] Open Water is the perfect album to listen to entering Spring, with soft, supple folk Celtic roots and soothing lyrics trickling together like a stream coming back to life, flowing into the river after winter. This album inspires feelings of warmth and coming home wherever you are, but especially in the Ottawa Valley. Marc’s ability to invoke the feeling of interconnectivity between being human and one with nature in this album is breathtakingly beautiful and quite indicative of his connecting to where he is from himself. In his song, Holden Lake, he sings, “I will never forget my land. My feet still feel the stones in the sand. I will never forget my land. I still see the patterns on her hands.” It reminds us that the love for everything around us is as strong as our memories of the simple things we find joy in. It’s not always about the big things, but small things in a small town. This point is further brought to light in Close to Home, when Marc sings, “This place is me I can’t explain, it’s good to know some things never end.” Our connection to where we are and how it influences who we are is forever. This album would make anyone who considers the Valley home, proud to live here, and not only find comfort in the company of neighbours and nature, but utterly everything around us.
